Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going?
In order to answer the first question, we start at the beginning.
Each one of us is beloved son or daughter of God.
The First Article of Faith
The first article of faith states:
"We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost".
This is the foundation of our beliefs, and all things start with God.
Lehi's Testimony
In the Book of Mormon, we read of Lehi who was one of the first prophets of the book.
He was getting old and was about to die, and was teaching his sons important truths about God and His gospel.
As part of those teachings, he shared the following truths:
"And if there is no God we are not, neither the earth; for there could have been no creation of things, neither to act nor to be acted upon; wherefore, all things must have vanished away." (2 N. 2:13)
He then continued with his testimony.
"And now, my sons, I speak unto you these things for your profit and learning; for there is a God, and he hath created all things, both the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are, both things to act and things to be acted upon." (2 N. 2:14)
Lehi understood that without God, we are not, neither the earth. For the could have been no creation of things.
But then he testified boldly, that there is God and He did indeed create all things, both in heave and in earth, and all things that in them are.
Conclusion
I too know that there is God. I know He lives and He watches over us. I know that all that we have been given comes from Him and He wants all of us to return to live with Him someday.
He has provided a way for us to do so, through His Son, Jesus Christ..
If we will repent and follow the Savior, we can return to live with God someday.
